Expressions of Interest now open
Early childhood services can now express interest in participating in the Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) trial to be conducted in 2015. Click here for more information.
"The Australian Government is providing $9.8 million for the ELLA trial, to test the effectiveness of providing preschool children with early exposure to a language other than English through online learning programmes. This is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to reviving language study in this country.
Research shows that learning languages develops children’s overall literacy, strengthening literacy-related capabilities that are transferable across learning areas. It also provides students with a head start towards language study at school. This programme will enable children to become more comfortable with different languages early in life so that they stay engaged during their later years.
The trial will determine the effectiveness of online language learning for children in a preschool programme. The trial will help the Government determine what approaches are most cost-effective and able to be rolled out to more students in the future."
