AISWA scholarships enabled nine teachers of French to undertake professional learning in Lyon and Paris in April 2013.
Claire Leong, AISWA Languages Consultant, organised and escorted the nine teachers for two weeks of language refreshment, teaching strategies and job-shadowing. AISWA's partners in this venture were Nadine Fraize and Richard Tallaron of Langue et Terre and LFEE whose workshops were so well received when they visited WA in 2012. Nadine is returning for an encore in August in WA. Check out the PL tab to register for one day or two day workshops.
The AISWA group joined teachers of French from across Europe in the in-country experience aimed at gaining a greater understanding of school education in France, enhancing their cultural awareness, refreshing their language skills and exchanging good practice. It was a fun, friendly and motivating course, with one week spent in the city and University of Lyon and the second shadowing a teacher in Paris.
A wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with colleagues from around the world in an immersion situation. Jane Massey, Presbyterian Ladies' College
An amazing opportunity to share ideas, resources and practice with teachers from Europe. We have discovered a huge range of games to use when we return. Lyon has been a fantastic, culturally rich place in which to study French culture. Kim Shepherd, Bunbury Grammar
One of the best parts of this course is that it is total immersion. I thoroughly recommend this experience to other teachers of French.
Caroline Winwood, St Hildas Anglican School for Girls.
A wonderful professional development opportunity for language teachers! The course was well organised and packed with authentic and unique activities for the class. Networking with colleagues while being immersed in the French language and culture was so enjoyable; an opportunity not to be missed. Athanassia Iosifidou, St Andrews Grammar
From the first day until the final lesson, I have found this course to be among the best I have experienced. The city of Lyon is culturally rich and an amazing setting for this stage and the total immersion is a wonderful window for busy teachers also. The opportunity to network with teachers from around the world and to gather rich resources make this an experience I would recommend to teachers of any year level. Sylvia Richardson, Ellenbrook Christian College
Not only is this course an excellent opportunity to spend a week in complete immersion and sharing professional learning with teachers from around the world, but the setting in Lyon is superb. A perfect mix of culture, language and collegiality. Thoroughly recommended. Liz Rogers, Wesley College
A fantastic opportunity for immersion, learning and sharing ideas. We have had superb instructions, with many useful activities to implement in our classes. The location is also very well chosen, close to so many interesting places to visit. Caroline Pindur, Helena College
